ABOUT THE KLASSIC
The Klassic started as a conversation amongst friends about getting a group of golfers together for fun and evolved into a mission to aid in the fight to cure cystic fibrosis. In 2009 we moved from the cart barn to the clubhouse and wrote a check to the foundation for $127,000, an increase of over 50% from 2008!
Why CF? Ryan Norberg (pictured) is the son of Geni Addicott, step son of Christian Addicott, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at birth. During our casual conversation Christian challenged us to raise money to help find a cure for the disease that has had such a devastating effect on Ryan's quality of life and makes his future so uncertain. A small group of friends formed a committee, accepted that challenge, and have raised over $200,000 with our first two events. Those who have played in the Klassic, have seen Ryan playing golf with his father Jack, and have had a chance to meet him, understand why we accepted Christian's challenge. His enduring spirit, love of life, and witty sense of humor have been as much a part of our tournament as the golf itself. With funds from the Klassic Invitational, the CF Foundation can continue its fight to find a cure for Ryan's disease.
Why the "K" in Klassic? Bill and Jenny Klein are longtime friends of the Addicotts and strong supporters of the CF Foundation. When approached with the idea for this golf tournament Mr. K believed in us enough to become our title sponsor, so as a way to say thank you, we decided to name the tournament in his honor. Bill and Jenny returned as our presenting title sponsors in 2009 and continue to support our event and the cause. For that, we cannot thank them enough.
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has several golf tournaments every year and each one of them has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for research to find a cure. One of these special tournaments is the Cystic Fibrosis Invitational. Ron Harris has organized this event for over 20 years and has announced he is stepping down as the chairman and chief organizer. Ron's dedication and tireless efforts have made the Invitational an event that many people have looked forward to every year.
After the 2009 Klassic we were contacted by the CF Foundation and asked how we would feel about merging the Klassic with the Invitational. We were flattered and a little overwhelmed to say the least, but after meeting with Ron and his lovely wife Pat we can tell you it is truly an honor. For the many of you who have enjoyed the CF Invitational all these years, do not be alarmed. Ron and Pat have committed themselves to being a part of the planning process, just on a smaller scale.
We are thrilled to be moving our event to the Balboa Bay Club and Newport Beach Country Club. We are also really excited about having the dinner the night before as it allows golfers to include spouses, family and friends in a night of fun prior to playing on a championship golf course the next day. We want to thank our sponsors, players and volunteers for their amazing generosity. Thanks to you we are that much closer to finding a cure and changing the lives of so many children and young adults afflicted with cystic fibrosis (CF).
